Ukiah Scholarships

Ryan & Collin Petitte Memorial Scholarship Fund

Created by the friends and family of Ryan and Collin Petitte, this scholarship is for Ukiah-area high school seniors who are interested in attending vocational schools, community colleges, four-year colleges, or universities.  Awardees are selected for their strong family bond and sense of humor; their interest in pursuing careers in wildlife conservation, environmental resource management or economics; their community or school activities (including hobbies, interests, and non-traditional activities); and their financial need.  In addition, preference will be given to those who are planning to attend the University of California at Davis, Oregon State University, or the University of Connecticut.  To learn more about the history of this scholarship, click here.

Amount: $5,000 over four years, $2,000 year 1 and $1000 for books years 2-4

Requirements:  A 2019 Community Foundation online application, including a high school transcript and two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, and/or peers. *We will also accept a paper Ukiah High school common scholarship application.

Ukiah High School Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund

Created by Robert (Bob) Cannon, who taught many members of the class of 1960 when they were in the fifth grade, this scholarship is awarded to Ukiah High seniors who plan to attend either a community college, vocational/trade school, or a four-year college/university.  Awardees are selected for prioritizing community service, family involvement and/or volunteerism while in high school; having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.5; and their financial need. Amount: $2,000 over two years ($1,000/year)

Requirements: A 2019 Community Foundation online application, including a high school transcript, and two letters of recommendation from instructors, community members or employers. *We will also accept a paper Ukiah High school common scholarship application.

David Joseph Talamo Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund

Created by the Talamo Family in honor of their son/brother, David, this scholarship is awarded to Ukiah High School seniors who plan to attend vocational schools, community colleges, or four-year colleges or universities.  Awardees are selected for their sense of humor and love of family; their participation in organized sports throughout high school; and their prior academic performance (a minimum 3.0 grade point average is required).  To learn more about the history of this scholarship, click here.

Warren "Ed" Brown Scholarship

In honor of Ukiah High School alumnus, Warren ‘Ed’ Brown, Ed’s family, along with the Ukiah High School Alumni Association, created this perpetual, multi-year scholarship at the Community Foundation.  This scholarship is made possible through the Warren “Ed” Brown Math/Engineering Scholarship Fund and the UHSAA: Warren “Ed” Brown Scholarship Fund. Awardees are selected for their desire to pursue a career in mathematics or engineering; prior academic performance (a minimum 3.5 grade point average is required); and financial need.  Please note that students selected as finalists for the Warren "Ed" Brown scholarship will be required to complete a mathematical problem as part of the interview process.  To learn more about the history of this scholarship, click here

Viola L. Allen and Oscar A. Allen Scholarship Fund

Created by Viola L. Allen and Oscar A. Allen, this scholarship is awarded to ­female Ukiah High School seniors and/or graduates with serious interest in pursuing careers in the healthcare field.  Applicants may attend vocational schools, community colleges, four-year colleges /universities, or graduate schools.  Awardees are selected for their sense of purpose, financial need, and prior academic performance. To learn more about the history of this scholarship, click here.

Amount: Up to $1,000 (for undergraduates) and $4,000 a year (for graduate level work)

Woman’s Opportunity Scholarship Fund

Created by anonymous donors, this scholarship will be awarded to a female graduate of an Ukiah area high school who is a first generation college student (neither parent may have attended either a 2 or 4-year college or university) and intends to pursue a course of study at an accredited and/or licensed vocational school, community college, or four-year college or university. Priority will be given to individuals who have financial need and demonstrate academic potential, as evidenced by recommendations from instructors, and the desire to serve their community. Jean Cannon Scholarship Fund

Created by Marvin “Scotty” Cannon in honor of his wife Jean Cannon, this scholarship is for Ukiah High School graduating seniors who will pursue a career that focuses on improving the lives of women and children, e.g., early childhood education, adult literacy and ESL, child and maternal health, affordable housing, employment counseling and assistance, and violence reduction. Awardees must demonstrate financial need, a passion for learning, a dedicated work ethic, leadership, and involvement in community and/or school activities. McCarthy and Whitcomb Inland Performing Arts Scholarship Fund

Created by John Whitcomb and Dennis McCarthy, this scholarship is for a high school graduate from Anderson Valley, Ukiah area, Willits, Leggett, Laytonville, or Round Valley who is serious about pursuing a career in the performing arts, including music, theatre, dance, film, puppetry, and related fields at an accredited vocational school, community college or four year university.  Awardees are selected for their talent, drive and determination to pursue a career in the performing arts, and financial need.  A 3.0 GPA or better is preferred. Requirements: A 2019 Community Foundation online application, including a high school or college transcript, two letters of recommendation from drama/music/film instructors or teachers, a performing arts resume, and a sample of the student’s performing art (2 to 3 minutes) or design, especially if it cannot be presented in an interview. *We will also accept a paper Ukiah High school common scholarship application.

Paul and Linda Shimmin Scholarship Fund

Created by Paul Shimmin in honor of his wife, Linda Shimmin, this scholarship is awarded annually to graduates from Ukiah High School who will attend a vocational school, community college, or four-year college or university full-time. Preference will be given to scholar-athletes with financial need who have 3.0 GPA or better and have excelled at athletics (as evidenced by multi-sport or single sport year-round participation or recognition in a single sport-i.e. Blanket, Most Valuable Player or All-League awards) during their high school careers.
