Laytonville Scholarships

The Ain't Noth'n Ever Been Got That Ain't Been Went Out After/Terwilliger Trust Scholarship Fund

Created by Jack and Ruby Terwilliger, this scholarship is for Laytonville High School seniors who plan to attend vocational schools, community colleges, or four-year colleges or universities.  Awardees are selected for their prior academic performance (a minimum 3.0 grade point average is required), their potential for academic success, and their community service.  To learn more about the history of this scholarship, click here.

Amount: $4,000 over four years ($1,000/year)

Requirements:  A 2019 Community Foundation online application, including a high school transcript. *We will also accept a paper Laytonville High school common scholarship application.

The John Haschak Public Service Scholarship Fund

Created by John Haschak, the current 3rd District Supervisor, to provide multi-year scholarships for Mendocino County Supervisorial District III (Covelo, Willits and Laytonville) high school seniors who attend vocational school, community college, or four-year college or university full-time in the United States. Priority will be given to students who desire to pursue careers in public service (e.g. education, law enforcement, local government, public health, social work, firefighting, Peace Corps./AmeriCorps, etc.) and demonstrate an interest in and passion for community service while in high school.  A GPA of 3.0 or better is preferred. 

Amount: $4,000 over four years ($1,000/year)

*One scholarship will be awarded in each area (Covelo, Willits, and Laytonville)

The Jonathan Family Scholarship Fund

Created by William Wagner in honor of the Jonathan family, this scholarship is for Laytonville High School seniors who plan to attend vocational schools, community colleges, or four-year colleges or universities.  Awardees are selected for their financial need, their qualities of diligence, perseverance, and selflessness, and their desire to pursue studies in music, art, architecture, building construction and/or design.

Amount: $750

Requirements:  A 2019 Community Foundation online application and a high school transcript. *We will also accept a paper Laytonville High school common scholarship application.

McCarthy and Whitcomb Inland Performing Arts Scholarship Fund

Created by John Whitcomb and Dennis McCarthy, this scholarship is for a high school graduate from Anderson Valley, Ukiah area, Willits, Leggett, Laytonville, or Round Valley who is serious about pursuing a career in the performing arts, including music, theatre, dance, film, puppetry, and related fields at an accredited vocational school, community college or four year university.  Awardees are selected for their talent, drive and determination to pursue a career in the performing arts, and financial need.  A 3.0 GPA or better is preferred. Amount:  $ 1,000

Requirements: A 2019 Community Foundation online application, including a high school or college transcript, two letters of recommendation from drama/music/film instructors or teachers, a performing arts resume, and a sample of the student’s performing art (2 to 3 minutes) or design, especially if it cannot be presented in an interview. *We will also accept a paper Willits High school common scholarship application.

MCHC Health Centers: Linnea Hunter Scholarship Fund

Created in 2017 to honor the organization’s founder Linnea Hunter, this scholarship will support the education of the children and legal dependents of active Mendocino Community Health Clinic, Inc. employees* by providing annual scholarships for graduating seniors and graduates (18-26 years of age) to attend accredited vocational schools, community colleges, or four-year colleges or universities within the United States. Priority will be given to individuals with financial need who demonstrate a history of giving back to their school, community and/or family; exhibit a commitment to public service and/or helping others; and show initiative, altruism and the desire to make the world a better place. A 2.5 (vocational) or 3.0 (two or four-year college) GPA or better is preferred. To learn more about the history of this scholarship, click here.

Requirements: A 2019 Community Foundation online application, including a high school transcript and two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, and/or employers. *We will also accept your paper high school common scholarship application.

Requirements for high school graduates: A Community Foundation online application, resume and two letters of recommendation.

Exclusion: Children of employees who are eligible for the MCHC Health Centers tuition reimbursement program may not simultaneously apply for this scholarship program.
*Those with at least one year of continuous service as of the date of application and who are still employed at the time the scholarship is awarded.
